Dr. Bigelow donated the streets and alleys of Johnstown as well as the town square. Today the square is home to Johnstown's Town Hall. The building contains the offices of the city and township, library and historic opera house.

Chronology of the Town Hall and Opera House

1883 Elizah Barton started construction of the present town hall.
1884 Barton completed the town hall, the crowning touch of the town hall was a fine opera house on the second floor of the building.
January 1, 1885 The ribbons were cut for the dedication of the new town hall.
1885-1918 The students of Johnstown High School hold their graduation ceremonies in the opera house.
March 28, 1901 Electric lights are lit in Johnstown.
April 28-29, 1922 Johnstown High School held their senior play "Stop Thief" on the electric lighted stage.
Mid 1900's Very few activities are held in the opera house.
Current The opera house is being used for variety shows, plays, christmas programs, and community meetings.
